Getting Started With Comet Storage

Frequently Asked Questions About Comet Storage

Can I use Comet Storage with my Comet-Hosted or Comet Self-Hosted server?

+

Yes, Comet Storage can be used with both Comet-Hosted and Self-Hosted servers.

How do I enable Object Lock on Comet Storage?

+

When you create a Comet Storage Bucket, you get the option to enable Object Lock on that Bucket.

Object Lock can only be enabled on new Comet Storage Buckets. It is not possible to enable Object Lock on an existing Comet Storage Bucket.

You can read more about setting up your Comet Storage Bucket in the Comet Server in our Getting Started with Comet Storage guide.

I’m a Comet user who already has a Wasabi account. Can I migrate to Comet Storage?

+

Yes, you can certainly migrate to Comet Storage even if you already have a Wasabi account. We offer migration assistance for a nominal fee to ensure a smooth transition. Please reach out to us at hello@cometbackup.com, and our dedicated team will provide you with all the details on how we can assist you in this process.

Note: A minimum of 25 TB is required for migration assistance to Comet Storage.

Alternatively, you have the option to switch to Comet Storage on your own. Simply create a new Comet Storage bucket (you can find more information on this in our Getting Started with Comet Storage guide), and then proceed to run a backup. Once you've confirmed that the backup was successful and conducted a test restore to your satisfaction, you can gradually phase out your existing Wasabi storage.

We're here to support you in whichever way works best for your needs.

I’m a Comet user who currently uses a cloud storage provider other than Wasabi. Can I switch to Comet Storage?

+

Yes, you can absolutely switch to Comet Storage even if you're currently using a cloud storage provider other than Wasabi. What are the differences between using Comet Storage versus using my own Wasabi storage account?

+

There are many advantages to using Comet Storage:

  • It’s fast to set it up. It’s pre-configured: all you need to do is select your storage region.
  • The security is configurable - you can decide if you would like to enable Object Lock on your Comet Storage Bucket or not.
  • Unified billing means you’ll get a single bill for both backup and storage.
  • The minimum storage duration with Comet Storage is only 30 days, instead of 90 days with Wasabi.

Here are a few reasons you may want to use your own Wasabi account:

  • You're an existing Wasabi customer (and you don’t mind having one bill for backup and a separate bill for storage costs).
  • You have specific compliance requirements for your storage account.
  • You want access to the Wasabi console to use the account for other purposes (Comet provide's the root key so customers can use the account through CLI/API).

Is Comet Storage immutable?

+

Yes, Comet Storage can be configured to be immutable. When you create a Comet Storage Bucket, you get the option to enable Object Lock on that Bucket.

Object Lock can only be enabled on new Comet Storage Buckets. It is not possible to enable Object Lock on an existing Comet Storage Bucket.
